Mahale Mountains National Park

This park with a surface of 1600 square meter was opened in 1980, for protection of the approximately 800 chimpanzees who live here. Mahale Mountains NP is located directly to Lake Tanganyika, here you can enjoy great sunsets, and you can take a refreshing swim in the crystal clear water of the Lake. The highest point of the park is Mount Nkungwe with an altitude of 2462 metres.

In the park you find the largest chimpanzee population of East Africa, furthermore you can see the following animals in the park; elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffalos, hyenas, wildebeest, dikdiks, ostriches, Thomson gazelles, and lions, but the latter is not too often observed, you can also observe a large mixture of water and tropical birds.
